Liz Smith is an investigative documentary filmmaker working on the frontlines of human rights.
Liz has been making films since studying at The London Film School in 2002/03.
She is the director of the feature documentary I Am Gen Z, which premiered at CPH:DOX in 2021 and won Best Feature Film at the Lower East Side Film Festival. She currently has two films on release, The Conspiracists and The Line We Crossed.
The Conspiracists explores the profound and unsettling impact of conspiracy theories on individuals and society and won the award for Best Documentary Feature at The Miami Women Festival 2025.
The Line We Crossed exposes the alarming erosion of the right to protest in the UK and has had a very successful theatrical release in the UK. It won the award for Best Feature Film at the Environmental Film & Screenplay Festival.
She is currently in production on two new feature films. Nowhere To Go examines the narrowing of asylum protections in Europe and the political forces shaping them. It is due for release in Spring 2027. The other film - currently untitled - explores what is happening to women's rights in the UK.
